Back in CaliforniaHi DA friends,
It's been a tad long since I've posted an update. It's been a bumpy 2014 however I've survived and am doing well. I've decided to go freelance again which means I am a gun for hire or should I say a brush for hire now . I'm living in the Los Angeles area in sunny California now and I'm also teaching a Creature design class at Gnomon school of VFX. I'm back to doing art for me and illustration and freelance concept art. I've been contracted to do all the interior art for H.G. Wells "War of the Worlds" which will be published by the Easton press http://www.eastonpress.com.
good to be back in DA,
Happy 2014Time flies by,
Happy New Year friends. I hope to post more this year and mingle a bit more with my Deviant peeps. All the best to you and I hope everyone does more awesome art this year!
HAPPY 2013! and Epic gamesHi DA friends,
I know it's been awhile and it's shameful that I have not updated or posted in several months. A couple of personal and professional things happened that has occupied my time.
The personal is personal and I keep for myself. I can say on a professional tip is that I've been working as a senior concept artist for Epic games since August 2012. I'm very fortunate to be there as I'm in the company of some of the most talented and brilliant game developers and artist in the world. Everyday I learn something new or see something amazing.
This is no excuse for not doing my own art as I will still do that and try to post when I can. I've missed the community here and seeing all the rising talented artist here.
Happy New year all and lets keep doing more kick ass art in 2013!
New Game of Thrones "Lord Snow" printHi DA,
I usually don't like to plug available prints as they are listed in the images pages. Since I've gotten a few request for this one and a few others, thought I would let you all know
that I have made my Game of Thrones painting available as a print on Deviant. The painting was an original commission for a board game and was done with traditional oil paints.
Thats a rare in istelf as I work digitally 90% of the time.

"From the depths of my imagination and from all the media I was absorbing I was able to to create anything I wanted with graphite and paper. I hadn't even hit puberty yet but I was creating worlds a child should never create. Screaming beasts, barbarians, savage amazons and alien worlds .
There was no "Mouse" there was no "Bunny" there was only my world, and it was some times scary as hell. "

Tips For Commission ArtistsHello! I thought of making this small guide, based from my personal experience, to give tips to artists, mostly beginners, to be more successful at selling commissions, since seeing from my previous journal many had difficulty with it. So here are some tips to help boosting your sales.
Have your commission info somewhere visible
Possibly, people won't even know you are taking commissions or if they are open if you don't put your commission info somewhere they can see. You can do this in a journal, that I mostly recommend, since it will be showing into your watcher's inboxes and most of your watchers probably rarely visit your profile page. You could still also use the commission widget, or donation poll to write your info. You can also link to your commission info in your signature or the artist's comment of new drawings you upload.
Keep it simple
Don't add too many unnecessary rules or in
Do's and don'ts for flawless interactionNot much to say about this.
Just some basic tips and tricks for flawless interaction on DeviantArt
Watch people when you honestly find them interesting.
Watch your friends, even if they don't have amazing art. It helps you stay updated with their progress.
Watch groups. They'll offer you a fine selection of art you're interested in, and will help you discover new (interesting) artists.
Check the faves of people you watch. As you like their work, you might have similar tastes in art. Checking their faves might help you find cool art.
Recommend art from people that you watch for a Daily Deviation (if good art, of course).
Uncheck all boxes when watching. There's nothing more disappointing than an empty watch.

White Knights and Why They're HarmfulThis is quite a huge/concerning topic, and I know that not all deviants share the same point of view, and I respect that. I'm sure that there are many other journals touching upon this subject, but because I personally have had very bad experiences with it, I want to inform my watchers about it myself! Hope it helps some.
So, for the past year or so I've noticed that some people saying that they specifically dislike a lot of "popular" dA artists due to the overprotective behavior of their watchers.
I personally find it very sad that people are turned off by my artwork simply because they associate my username with "[my] white knights".
There's no way I can possibly control what my fanbase does or says, and this can lead to some very awkward situations and conflicts on my end.
Don't get me wrong...I love each and every one of my watchers, in fact without you guys my artistic life would be incredibly more lackluster. I'm sure ma
5 ways to get into the creative zoneDear, deviantart fellow artists
Sometimes we tend to feel unmotivated and uninspired to do anything... but there are also those blissful moments of creativity, when inspiration strikes and time goes by unnoticed. Not getting distracted, going with the flow, so merged in the process, that there is no need to do anything else until the work gets done. But how to get in that mood more often..? Here are some ways/tips that helped me over the time.
1. Prepare your work space
Make the place you work as comfortable and useful as possible. Clean the desk from all the clutter, gather your tools in a most accessible way, organize in order to avoid mess. Set the according light, have some inspiring quotes, goals written around.
2. Avoid distractions
Turn off the internet. Or close all the tabs, you don’t need. Especially, social media sites. Don’t check the news/e-mail/mobile phone all the time. Get in the place where
Triggers, Triggers Everywhere"Trigger warning."
If you browse art on dA or Tumblr, you've probably seen these words before.
What exactly is a trigger?
Triggers come in multiple flavors.
Trauma triggersA person who has experienced a severe traumatic event—which isn't just limited to war veterans—may find that a particular sensory experience sends them back to that trauma. Although as camelopardalisinblue rightfully points out, it may not always be a full-scale flashback. Plenty of grey areas. Learn more about PTSD here.
I knew someone who had been abused in a room with fish-themed wallpaper. (Details changed to protect privacy.) So while something like the Jesus fish was tolerable because it was so abstract, they found real fish uncomfortable, and sudden exposure to a similar type of fish drawin

How to Stay Inspired and Focused on Your WritingLiterature Basics Week
Our world is so full of noise and distraction. It’s no wonder “Walden” is a classic—Thoreau had time and quiet in which to write it! And plenty of inspiration from nature.
So how do we focus, as writers, on our craft? Even if it’s our passion, sometimes it takes a lot of effort to sit down and just write—especially if we struggle with attention or hyperactivity, whether diagnosed or not.
As someone who has studied both academic writing and reading in college and graduate school, and a veteran of National Poetry Writing Month for 7 years and National Novel Writing Month for one, I can attest that intentional writing, for fun or for a grade, is not easy to focus on, especially without a good writing environment.
So what to do? Many professional writers will tell you just one simple thing: write. James Patterson said, “The trick is making writing into a daily habit. Same time. Same place. Same hot beverage of choice.
JP Targete illustration dvds availableIn his first of three DVDs, J.P. takes you on an exciting creative and technical journey showing you how he begins a fantasy illustration, Dark Riders, purely from imagination. He covers the early stages of his process, from the initial idea to thumbnails, concept design and the final color sketch. J.P. also discusses how character personality, costumes, weapons and action poses affect the narrative of the final illustration. You will learn the creative process of composing your thumbnails, and how to use segments of your designs for future reference as you get closer to the final dynamic illustration. Over the course of the lecture, J.P. covers the uses of traditional media like markers, acrylic and oil paints, discussing the advantages of each.
